Textedit Save As Html

Textedit html download

Tristan, First you'll need to click 'Format' and choose 'Make Plain Text'. HTML files (and CSS and PHP and any other code you write here) will need to be in plain text to avoid extra markup. Once you've done that, when you go to Save, you should see a drop down box that says 'Plain Text Encoding: Unicode (UTF-8)'.

  • First, use TextEdit, don't use Word. Before you save your document, select Make Plain Text from the Format menu. (If the menu says Make Rich Text then you are already in plain text mode.) If you save the document now, you should be able to give it whatever extension you want. Since the file is plain text, you can be sure that TextEdit won't.
  • It appears, there’s a – form of – hidden feature in TextEdit as a way to permit us to save our files within the simple text format. It requires us to enter TextEdit’s preferences, and tweak some settings. That is what we ought to do: 1. Launch TextEdit, and go to “TextEdit - Preferences“, or press “command +,“.
  • Open TextEdit by typing textedit into Spotlight and then double-clicking TextEdit. Click New Document when prompted. Click Make Plain Text. Paste in your HTML file's text. Press ⌘ Command+S. Select Web Page from the 'File Format' drop-down box.
  • Save the file you're editing. Drag the contact.htm or index.html into your open web browser. You should see updated text in the footer and in the contact info area. You'll now want to proceed to the other steps on the help.html. Edit the other template files this way.

I am taking to intro course to html. i was instructed to open up textedit on my mac. Text edit won't let me save a file as '.html'. It adds a weird extension to to the end. Also, could I just use sublime text instead of textedit?

Tristan,

First you'll need to click 'Format' and choose 'Make Plain Text'. HTML files (and CSS and PHP and any other code you write here) will need to be in plain text to avoid extra markup. Once you've done that, when you go to Save, you should see a drop down box that says 'Plain Text Encoding: Unicode (UTF-8)'. Now you should be able to save as an .html file.

Hm. You probably have the checkbox checked 'If no extension is provided use '.txt'?

if so this will bring up a prompt asking you to use .html or use .txt? IF so, if you click use .html it should be fine.

But honestly ...

Download Textedit

Drop Textedit and get Sublime Text. All will be well after that. You need the syntax highlighting and indentation among other things. Very powerful editor.

EDIT: NVM. Shawn has it.

I don't have a mac, but you should be able to simply rename a file to have a .html extension. A quick google on sublime text looks like it would suit your purposes.
